Swiss Luxoft opens center in Serbia, Russian Yandex to follow

Despite the war in Ukraine—and maybe thanks to it—not only Ukrainian and EU companies are choosing to invest in Serbia, but also those from Russia, with Swiss software company Luxoft having opened a new hub in Belgrade and Russian IT company Yandex now planning to create 800 jobs in Serbia through the creation of a new development center there.

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic broke the news during a ribbon-cutting ceremony for IT software company Luxoft, which opened its own center in Belgrade Nov. 18, also stating that Serbia was also “open to cooperation” with IT companies from around the globe, according to the Serbian news site B92.

According to BNE Intellinews, the Swiss-based Luxoft already has “more than 1,000 employees in Serbia, and by the end of 2023 there will be over 2,000.”

Noteworthy is that Luxoft also had a strong presence in Russia prior to the war in Ukraine, but now it has left Russia for greener pastures.
