Serbia expels Croatian embassy first secretary; Croatia decries worsening relations

A key member of the Croatian embassy staff in Belgrade was expelled from Serbia, following accusations of spying, according to Serbian news sources and the Serbian Foreign Ministry.

Croatian Embassy First Secretary Hrvoje Snajder was told to leave Serbia and declared “persona non grata,” according to the Serbian Foreign Ministry.

The Serbian news site Vercernje Novosti stated that Snajder violated diplomatic norms, and was thus hit with “persona non grata” status.

Croatia has since criticized the decision and said that it is evidence of worsening relations between the two countries.
