Egypt, Serbia discuss potential free-trade agreement

Egypt and Serbia are currently in the process of negotiating a free-trade agreement, according to local media, which cited on July 27 meetings between Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir and Serbian Minister of Domestic and Foreign Trade Tomislav Momirovic.

Negotiations are currently being undertaken a the “expert level,” according to the publication, and if an agreement is reached it would bolster joint investment.

Samir noted that current m meetings focused on forming a working group from both sides to study “potentials and needs of Egyptian and Serbian markets,” according to Dailynewsegypt.com.

The volume trade exchange came to USD 113.59 mln in 2022, up over USD 79.74 mln in 2021, representing an increase of 42.5 percent on the back of trade in fertilizers, phosphates, vegetables, fruits, plastics, tobacco, machinery and electrical appliances, the news site said.
For his part, Momirovic noted “unprecedented momentum” in talks.
