Cigarette manufacturer Philip Morris to invest another USD 100 mln in Serbian Nis plant

Cigarette manufacturer Philip Morris will invest some USD 100 mln in a production facility in Nis, which will create an estimated 200 jobs, as was confirmed by both the company and Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic on Sept. 6.

Brnabic thanked and congratulated the company for the past 20 years of operations in Serbia. Philip Morris acquired the Nis Tobacco Industry facilities two decades ago in Nis.

Brnabic said: „I see this as a new beginning – 100 mln dollars is particularly important when some of Europe’s biggest economies are in recession and when we have considerable instability and war in Europe,” as quoted by Tanjug.rs. “I also see this as the beginning of a new life for Philip Morris in Serbia,” she added.

Once the investment is completed, Philip Morris will have invested USD 1 bln in Serbia.
