Serbian state becomes sole shareholder of Air Serbia

The Serbian state became the sole shareholder of Air Serbia Nov. 13, according to a statement by Serbian Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali.

Air Serbia signed to take over a 16.42 percent share from former minority shareholder Etihad Airways, with the minister stating that Etihad was exiting due to “business decisions.”

Mali added that a leader in the region had been created from a bankrupt company, nothing, according to ekapija.com, that Air Serbia has set an example of an airline that contributes to the “economic development of a country.”

The airline rapidly expanded or renewed routes, following the COVID years, and has repeatedly exceeded pre-COVID figures. During October, Air Serbia carried a total of 367,146 passengers on scheduled and charter flights, which represents a 50 per cent increase compared to the same month last year, or a 45 per cent growth compared to the pre-pandemic record year of 2019.
