Serbian Prez Vucic up for buying Montenegrin LNG to aid in energy diversification

Serbia and Montenegro appear to be on track to better relations, with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic noting that differences can now be discussed in “civilized” fashion, but at the heart of discussions may be further energy independence, with local media noting Serbia’s plans to buy Montenegrin LNG.

Following meetings in Belgrade Monday, July 10, Vucic highlighted potential areas of cooperation and pointed out that Serbia not only is ready to buy LNG, but that a infrastructure could be directed toward Bijelo Polje  and the Zlatibor-Prijepolje-Bijelo Polje measuring station so that large quantities of gas could be obtained.

Vucic said Serbia is ready to buy some 2.7 million cubic meters a day, which would aid in current energy diversification, according to the business website Ekapija.com.

Montenegro, according to the site, will build a liquefied gas terminal in Bar.

Vucic has made much of Serbia’s need for energy diversity since the advent of the war in Ukraine, pushing this point home with the EU while also dealing with Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban in order to discuss joint gas projects.
