Serbian government seeks strategic investor to develop solar farms, battery storage, increase energy independence

The Serbian government is searching for a partner to develop five solar farms in order to increase energy independence, according to international trade media.

The country—which has been under pressure from both the EU and Russia with regard to energy sources since the beginning of the war in Ukraine—is currently seeking a strategic partner to develop a total of 1 GW/1.2 GWh of solar energy, as well as 200 MW/400 MWh of co-located battery energy storage systems, as cited by pv-magazine.com. The caveat is that the state would “remain the owner” and the strategic partner would fulfil investor needs.

This investor would be required to select locations, prepare all documentation and procure equipment. It would also operate the plants and provide training to teams with the new investments needed to be delivered within five years, although the partner contract is envisioned to run for seven years.

A tender is currently in the process of being organized.
