Construction officially began at the 9.95 MW Saraorci solar power plant July 18, a PowerChina and German AVR Solar Park joint-project that is the most recent alternative energy project to get under way in Serbia.
„The solar potential of Serbia is about 30 percent higher than the potential of Germany, which is one of the leaders in Europe in the production of electricity using this type of energy,” said Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic, as cited by Serbian news site B92.
Djedovic and Chinese Ambassador Chen Bo attended the foundation laying ceremony. Djedovic pointed out that there are ongoing auctions for solar plants and that the current output of solar plants already on line comes to 21 MW, although this is expected to reach 300 MW through the current solar plant auction program.
