Int’l car maker Stellantis on track to launch electric car production in Kragujevac in 2024; Serbian Prez Vucic banking on increased trade

Serbian-Italian trade appears to be on the edge of ramping up, with electric vehicle manufacturer Stellantis on track to begin production in 2024—with this being the expected follow through on last year’s EUR 190 mln deal to begin manufacturing of said vehicles in Kragujevac.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic commented on the developments March 22.

„In the past ten years, we have doubled our trade with Italy and today is at around EUR 4.6 bln,” Vucic said, as cited by Tanjug.rs. “You can count on it becoming incomparably higher next year, once Stellantis’s production of modern electrically powered city cars begins in Kragujevac.”

In Arpril 2022 French-Italian Stellantis announced plans for the aforementioned manufacturing plant, with Vucic at the time stating that the investment would be the beginning of a “new era” in Italian-Serbian bilateral trade.

Fiat Chrysler (FCA), a subsidiary of Stellantis, already produces traditional vehicles at the plant.

Stellantis N.V. was formed in 2021 out of a merger between the Italian-American Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and French PSA Group. Stellantis ranked as the world’s fifth-largest automaker behind Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and General Motors in 2021.
